We just finished up our New Year's ale last week. Thee Mighty bourbon aged Belgian Tripel (I think I'm calling it "Bobbing for Apples in a Bourbon Barrell" as it tasted like a couple'a green apples got all liquored up). That batch sure didn't last long! Hope you got to try one. It was super T A S T Y!
Currently we have 2 homemades at the shop to choose from:
#1) the Walnut Kriek.
This sour, tart, wild ale is refermented in secondary with cherries. Although it's technically a Lambic, do NOT expect a timid, mild, fruity beer! This one's sour & quite funky! Probably will taste more like wine than beer to most folks. Oh, if you have a walnut allergy, DO NOT FEAR! There are absolutely ZERO WALNUTS in this here beer. Walnut Creek's the name of a once tiny town in Northern California's East Bay (where I went to both middle & high school) that's long since died & been paved over by such exciting retailers as Bed, Bath & Beyond, the Baby Gap & Crate & Barrell (forever replacing both the former Main Street, USA vibe as well as displacing much of what was once a spacious, majestic, natural environment with a ton of post consumer waste & neon dollar signs. Awesome, right? Why fight Urban Sprawl? Embrace it friends. Give in to the dark side. Geez, maybe I should name it the soapbox ale). If you are adventurous, the Kriek should definitely be your pick! The Walnut Kriek has the classic "sweatty, horse blanket" funk that any good Belgian sour with a decent amount of age develops. This is an ale to be experienced, not to be chug-a-lugged. Pretty exciting beer if you ask me.
# 2)Clifford the Big Red Ale. An Irish Red Ale with a ton of bready, malt flavors that just so happens to be named after our landlord Cliff (as well as referencing the dorky Big Red Dog kids books... sorry folks, I have kids. Plus I'm an idiot). This ale's a thick, grainy, round session ale. You can (& should) justify enjoying one of these on your lunch break guilt-free. It's got a low ABV, but a high drinkability! Bottoms up! Cheers!
